Reduce Firefox memory consumption

Posted by admin On April - 10 - 2009

Firefox is an excellent web browser, since it has a decent number of advantages to consider, but not perfect and can get others to consume memory. Luckily there is a way to fix it.

What does free up memory Windows is normally assigned to an application if it is minimized, but Firefox has this option disabled by default, unless you apply the new settings.

Firefox usually does not consume memory rest, but will do so after prolonged use of this application to browse the internet, and whether we are using multiple tabs.

The steps to follow are:

1. The first thing we will do is to enter the mode of our Firefox, for this in the address bar, type the following: about: config, then Enter to confirm the message that tells us we must be careful when modifying the configuration.

2. Unless you’ve done before this particular change, so you should do is create a new value (right click on an open area) of type Boolean (New> Logical).

3. In the window that appears, enter config.trim_on_minimize and then select True in the box below.

4. Close your window config about: config window, restart Firefox and go.

You’ll see the speed on your desk to minimize Firefox has increased substantially about before, you have not had to increase RAM or buy high technology equipment.

If you want to read something more about this setting in the trim_on_minimize, you may need to check this link Mozilla Knowledge Base.

On the other hand may not be what you want and want to return to your previous configuration, this only re-enter the configuration mode and the filter element to search by name (config.trim_on_minimize) at the top, then right click and change its value to False.
